Match starts at Oct 24, 09:30 GMT
That's it from this game. Once again rain has had a huge influence here in Colombo. Pakistan finish the tournament winless. Tomorrow it's a big game - Australia v South Africa. That should be a superb game. Hopefully the weather stays fine for that one. On that note we sign off from here. Do join us tomorrow for all the action. Till then it's bye bye from all of us here.
Chamari Athapaththu | SL captain: (About the weather conditions in Colombo) I will try to control what I can control. I feel as a team, the expectations are high when we come to this World Cup. Unfortunately, we lost the first game against India and another game against England. We’ve made a lot of mistakes, in the field, as a batting unit, and as a bowling unit. This isn’t the way we want to play, unfortunately, but we’re focusing on what we can do better in the future. So, yeah, let’s see. We have good young players and good senior players. The seniors always go and talk to the youngsters and give advice. As captain, I’m trying to free all the girls. I always tell them to play positive cricket. That’s what I want to see. We have a good domestic structure now, and we’re playing a lot of cricket in Sri Lanka. So, hopefully, we can become a good team in the future. Actually, compared to South Africa, India, and New Zealand - these are three teams we’ve beaten in the last 12 months. We also beat England in England in the T20 format, though that’s a different format. But on any given day, the team that plays its best cricket will win. We need to improve our batting a bit, especially in the longer format where patience is key, we got to play our natural game. I think we’re very close to the top four teams, but we need to keep improving. If we make too many mistakes in one game, we can’t win. In this World Cup, we made a lot of errors in the India and England matches, and that’s why we lost those two games. Those games have really affected us, that's why we are in such position. Yeah, hopefully (I will bat at the top.) I’ve played a couple of World Cups now, and I’m 35 years old. I’m still looking forward to playing more cricket and building a good team for the future. These are tough conditions - we’re playing under lights and with rain, which makes it hard. But let’s see what we can do in the future.
Fatima Sana | Pakistan captain: (reflections on this tournament) I think we were very good on the bowling side and the fielding side, but I think we are lacking in the batting. So, in a couple of matches, we were up to a very good mark and we were very close against Australia and England. But unfortunately, we were not crossing the main line, so that's the only thing. Yeah, I think as a captain, as the youngest captain, I have a lot of… These matches gave me a lot of boost from the World Cup. And I think the only thing is the weather didn't go in our favour in the England match and the last couple of matches. Yeah, definitely. We are not playing much cricket in the recent past. We just qualified after the one series. So, I think definitely we need much more cricket after the World Cup. Definitely in the next year, we have a T20 World Cup as well. So, hopefully we will get much cricket and prepare ourselves for the big events. (what's next on the radar for you?) Hopefully, let's see what PCB arranges for us, because after this we have two series next year. So, we are waiting. Let's see what will be after this. (on the pressure on you as a young captain) Of course, I am in a learning phase and I am always watching Kane Williamson. He almost lost a very close World Cup, but still he is smiling. So, I just try to be calm. Obviously, when you are captaining, you decide, losing side especially. But as a captain and as the youngest captain, you have to believe in yourself. Hopefully, in the next World Cup and in the next matches, we are a much stronger team and try to be a better team. (on what the little mascot had on the note which she gave you before the national anthem) Firstly, she said, “Please take my number and call me. I am your biggest fan.” So, I was laughing because I always stand by her side in the national anthem. And I really enjoyed her company. But you know, it's a lovely moment. But these youngsters, you hold their hands, you are going out to the field to play. They are the stars of the future. (how is it playing for the country?) Yeah, definitely. When I saw our legends like Sana (Mir) paaji, Bismah (Maroof) paaji, I was literally a net bowler in the West Indies series in 2017. And when Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin came in practice and praised my bowling, that obviously boosted me as a cricketer. So, I think they also boost us when we are standing and talking to each other. That would be helpful. And if you are a good human being, you have to do these things.
20:11 Local Time, 14:41 GMT, 20:11 IST: Rain has had the final say yet again, with multiple matches in Colombo affected throughout the tournament. The Sri Lanka vs Australia game was abandoned without a toss, while only one innings could be completed in the Sri Lanka vs New Zealand fixture. The Pakistan Women vs England Women clash ended with no result, while just 25 overs were possible between Pakistan and New Zealand. Once again tonight, Colombo has played spoilsport this tournament. A huge shoutout to the groundstaff for their tireless efforts over the past three weeks though. The rain never stopped, and neither did they. But all that frustration comes to an end as this was the last game in Colombo. Pakistan Women were the only team without a win in this tournament. Let's see what the captains have to say..
19:30 Local Time, 14:00 GMT, 19:30 IST: Some movement from the groundstaff. Some of the covers are being peeled off. Now the process of removing the water from the covers will begin.
Vivek: I am a bit confused how NZ Women is out of tournament. If IND lost and NZ won by big margin respectively then both team will finish on 6 points. NZ W still having chance, isn't it? -- The number of wins count. India have won 3 games and NZ have won only 1 match in the tournament.
19:26 Local Time, 13:56 GMT, 19:26 IST: No change in weather conditions. The entire ground is under covers.
19:06 Local Time, 13:36 GMT, 19:06 IST: Scratch that. The entire ground is covered again. The frustrating wait continues.
18:58 Local Time, 13:28 GMT, 18:58 IST: Can see some movement by the groundstaff. Looks like the rain has stopped. A couple of covers on the outfield being peeled off.
18:49 Local Time, 13:19 GMT, 18:49 IST: The entire ground is now covered. Proper downpour this. Still can rain. Alan Wilkins on air says that we need to get back by 20:33 for a 20-over game. That's the latest.
18:33 Local Time, 13:03 GMT, 18:33 IST: That's it. We are off. The rain has gotten heavier. Fatima Sana has a smile on her face as she looks at the rain. The covers are on. Chamari doesn't want to go. It is coming down pretty hard now. The pitch and the surrounding areas are covered. So quick the groundstaff here to do their job. Exceptional work.
It's raining again. For now they are playing on. The groundstaff are rushing on.
