Profile

India needed a pace-bowling spearhead when Jhulan Goswami retired and in Renuka Singh Thakur, they found one. Hailing from the picturesque hill-station of Shimla, Renuka made selectors look her way when she finished as the leading wicket-taker in the 2019-20 Senior Women’s One Day League. Renuka’s cricketing journey started in 2009 when she enrolled herself in HPCA’s residential academy in Dharamsala and she worked her way up through Himachal Pradesh’s age group cricket. Her breakthrough domestic season resulted in a call-up to India's squad for a series against Australia in 2021 and she didn’t look back since.

Possessing a natural inswinger and excellent control with the new ball, Renuka Singh Thakur quickly established herself as India’s ace pace weapon. She was a part of India’s squad for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup and later that year, was the leading wicket-taker at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where India won the silver medal. She was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural edition of the WPL and was part of the squad that won the title in 2024.
