Profile

Having risen through the ranks, Sediqullah Atal is an elegant top-order left-handed batsman. Hailing from Kabul, Atal was part of Afghanistan's set-up in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup where he batted at the top of the order alongside Ibrahim Zadran.

Although he made his T20I debut in March 2023, the left-hander grabbed a lot of eyeballs in October at the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. He scored five fifties in as many innings and ended up as the Player of the Tournament as he helped Afghanistan A to clinch the title. Following that, Atal made his ODI and Test debut in the same year.

Atal recorded his maiden ODI ton against Zimbabwe in just his second series and followed it up with a half-century. Batting at three for Afghanistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy, Atal showed his class against Australia as he top-scored with a 95-ball 85. While he's tasted some success in the 50-over format, Atal is expected to be a regular across all three formats for Afghanistan, thanks to his technique and temperament.

Atal was roped in by Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 1.25 Crore for 2025 IPL as a replacement for Harry Brook. He featured in the franchise's final match of the season and scored a 16-ball 22. In the Shpageeza Cricket League, 2025, the left-handed batter was the second highest run-getter with 308 runs in 8 innings at an average of 38.50.
